From MN Bench Book - Trial Procedures & Practices for Judges
Clerks in civil cases will take a much more active role in the litigation process compared to non-civil cases. The clerks will do research for the Judge and provide bench memos to the Judge. The Court should provide the clerk’s contact information (phone and email) in the scheduling order. The Court should encourage the parties to contact their clerk if a problem comes up. Clerks should be present in all civil case hearings, if possible.
